Leo's head grew 1 cm this week and he grew a 1/2 cm in length!
He has his first eye exam tomorrow to check for ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity). In a nutshell it's when the immature retina does not develop correctly and can lead to retina detachment. ROP occurs in 80% of all babies in Leo's age group. Most of which resolve on their own. When eye exams occur to check for it through 10 weeks after their actual due date, it is treatable through laser surgery if necessary. Tomorrow, They will dilate his eyes and take images using a mini camera. Can you imagine how small this equipment is? Before they monitored eyes for ROP, many preemies became blind - most known is Stevie Wonder, who was a preemie who suffered from ROP and eventually blindness. I must admit being a NICU mom has really built up my knowledge base in ways I would have never imagined :)
You GrOw Leo!!
